Events are unfolding quickly since the City has intentionally expedited the appeals process to the Development Review Commission (DRC).
Something is seriously wrong and disturbing with our City’s governance when the Mayor, City Council, and City staff repeat these recurring patterns disregarding their constituents, our community, and now the voter mandates imposed by Chapter X. This apathy and disdain for the will of Lake Oswego residents must come to an end!
LoveLoParks and Lake Forest NA didn’t ask for this conflict. It doesn’t need to become a bitter feud. The LoveLOParks architects and supporters hoped the City would finally honor you, the citizens of Lake Oswego, and your vote for Measure 3-568. The City still has time to do the right thing and uphold the voters’ intent for preserving the natural area of Walgua Park – West!
There are other solutions to providing City sewer services that are outside Waluga Park – West’s boundaries. Our City Charter must be adhered to by our elected representatives and by the City, it is mandated in our City Charter…they must be held accountable to us, the voters. This illegal City action must not become precedent and thereby further jeopardizing all 15 protected Nature Preserves.
As LoveLOParks has established within the community from our past efforts, we will always lead with transparency, integrity, honesty, and the facts. To this end, LoveLOParks will use every communication channel at our disposal to reach and engage our community rapidly:
- Social media (follow us so you can share with your networks)
- Post cards
- Email subscribers
- Newspaper
- Letters to the Editor
- Guest Opinion
- Digital and Print Ads
- Phone banking
- Yard signs
- Posters
- Door Hangers
- Picketing
- Fundraising
And, if necessary, we are prepared to retain legal counsel.
Executing these activities will cost thousands of dollars AND the City thinks this will impede our ability to execute. The City is making the same mistakes from their multiple exploits at Springbrook Park, Cooks Butte, Hallinan Woods, and others AND their failed referendum. Lake Oswego residents are resilient and generous. We hope you will once again invest in our community to hold our City accountable.
