The Coalition for Hallinan Woods Nature Park is raising awareness of an opportunity to increase the footprint of Hallinan Woods, a 3.8-acre natural area, by ~53% (bringing it to 5.8-acres). A 2-acre wooded, private parcel adjacent to the natural area is slated to be development into 6 residential lots. This development would destroy the natural habitat, remove dozens of trees, and encroach on the sanctity of Hallinan Woods’ natural experience. The coalition has been working for over 5 years to influence the city in purchasing this property for its preservation as natural habit and include it into the Hallinan Woods footprint. While the Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Advisory Board recommended the city purchase the property at market value, the city has made a below market offer and a final offer to the owner in a closed executive session – neither were accepted by the owner. The coalition could use your help to make this a reality!
While the Coalition for Hallinan Woods Nature Park is leading this effort, LoveLOParks is adding their effort as a new cause to our website to bring broader awareness and gather more support within our community.
